Now you have four unlock options instead of just two. Let’s begin with the beginning, shall we? Your lock screen has changed.

Of course, now that 4.0 is beginning to roll out to more devices, 4.1 Jellybean is showing off with some very cool, new features… but that’s for another time. Just prior to the Droid RAZR getting the upgrade, Ice Cream Sandwich was found on just 10% of active Android devices with Gingerbread and Froyo taking the majority of the Android market (pun intended). Unfortunately, Android 4.0 was difficult to find, having only launched on about 3% of Android devices. Finally, Android launched 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich which promised to bridge the gap between the smartphone operating systems and the tablet operating systems. We certainly didn’t want to see Android 1.6 and 1.8 on a tablet but we weren’t thrilled about Froyo or Gingerbread either. For a while, Androiders have wanted an OS that spanned both the mobile device world and tablets. We then had Froyo and Gingerbread while the better Android tablets were treated with Android 3.0, known as Honeycomb. Android really exploded with Eclair, AKA Android 2.0 and Eclair (Second Helping), AKA Android 2.1. For those of you unfamiliar with Android OS’s, Android has been naming them after desserts for quite some time, going all the way back to Cupcake.

In fact, I was just minutes away from performing the install myself when I received my update notification. I probably don’t have to tell you how anxious I was to receive it. Recently, I received the Ice Cream Sandwich update OTA (over the air) for my Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx.
